During the last few years the Gateway strategy has really begun to grip the imagination of church leaders in South Africa. After the success of the initial HUB convention in 1998 the World Mission Centre is planning to host a second HUB Convention in Pretoria South Africa. Although this is primarily a South African event, interest is now coming from different parts of the world. The World Mission Centre expects people to attend from places as far afield as the CIS, Europe and different parts of Africa. Most of those coming from these countries are either involved in the strategy by serving the HUBS within their countries or they are interested to see how it can be duplicated in their own countries. The convention will be held from the 20th - 22nd of April 1999 and will be hosted by Lazarus Selhale and Willie Crew.
One of the keynote speakers will again be Phill Butler from Interdev, who will assist this fledgling movement to further set it's coarse to reach the goals of that are in their hearts.
A major part of the 1999 convention will be dedicated to the efforts of the 21 Southern Africa HUBS that are focused on reaching the 100 Least Reached People Groups of Southern Africa. Currently 18 of the 21 HUBS are in place. At the annual meeting of the anchor church leaders in October 1998, the pastors reconfirmed their commitment to reach out and form unique partnerships with the indigenous leaders in these 21 countries in order to plant at least one church together among each of the 100 Least Reached People Groups of Southern Africa by 31 December 2000. Once in place, this enormous strategy will consist of 21 partnerships between the HUBS in South Africa and the National church leaders within each of these countries, Currently the World Mission Centre is facilitating a regional partnership that will include all of the 21 partnerships together with various mission organisations and interested individuals that have a heart to see the region reached with the gospel.
A number of mission agencies working in the region have already indicated their willingness to participate in the regional partnership. Among them are MAF, AFMIN, JESUS FILM PROJECT, MAP, RAN, TWA, FEBA RADIO, TIMOTHY TRAINING INSTITUTE, NUPSA, CET, GOSPEL RECORDINGS, NEW LIFE MINISTRIES, OM etc.
The World Mission Centre is currently in the process of setting up an operational centre that will act as a point of co-ordination where information will be collected and disseminated to all those involved. Those hubs that are focused on the International regions of the Gateway Strategy, in particular those working the 10/ 40 Window have also set bold plans to continue to reach out to their respective regions. The HUBS working in the CIS, MENA and Middle South Asia have had amazing results during the last few years. They envisage that 1999 will be even more successful.
