New high tech ministry funding opportunity!

As we approach the 21st century, God is mobilizing the resources of the whole church to complete the task of world evangelization.

As part of this move of God, those whose part in the task is to provide funds are seeking ways to partner with new strategic ventures: they want to discover the ministry equivalent of "startup company" opportunities.

To begin that process, The Gathering (www.gatheringweb.com),<> Maclellan Foundation (www.maclellanfdn.org) and ICTA (www.icta.net)<> are co-sponsoring an experimental high tech ministry Angel Grants process.

As part of an upcoming Technology Briefing at the Gathering conference in Atlanta, we're going to demonstrate a new form of ministry funding, by doing it! In the high tech industry, startup plans that are too small for Venture Capital frequently get funded through an "Angel Investment" process. For the Briefing, we're introducing Angel Grants! Here's how it works...

• Ministries are encouraged to send in information/ technology oriented project proposals (see the Template, below). Ideally, your proposal should be sponsored by a foundation or major donor, but that is not a requirement this year. Proposals normally should be in the $50-500k range.
• Proposals must arrive at ICTA no later than August 15, 1999.
• The committee will meet one time in mid-August to review proposals.
• Submitters must make themselves available for any telephoned questions on that day (August 20, 1999).
• The top 10 (approx.) proposals will be written up for exposure to all foundations involved in The Gathering.
• The top 3 proposals will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Atlanta from anywhere in the world, to present their projects at the Briefing.

At the Briefing (Sep 15-16, at the Ritz Carlton in Atlanta):

• Wednesday evening, each of the top 3 will have 20 minutes to present.
• Thursday breakfast and lunch, interested attendees will have an opportunity for a one-hour more detailed interaction.
• Additional follow-up resulting in funding is up to the interested parties. (Our expectation is similar to the secular Angel funding groups, which typically result in four or more donors, each contributing $10,000 to $100,000.)

Proposal Information

Your proposal should:

• Involve computer technology and global missions in some way.
• Usually involve an investment of $50-500,000. (Some exceptions may be allowed.)
• Be no more than two to three pages when complete.
• Your proposal will be photocopied for our internal use. Keep it simple.
• MUST arrive at ICTA no later than August 15, 1999.
• Be sent by any of the following methods:

The judges are currently discussing the factors to be used in evaluating proposals. Possible criteria may include (but not be limited to):

• Impact - what is the actual/potential kingdom impact?
• Quality - technical quality, usability, etc.
• Cooperation - how well does the project utilize and/or encourage cooperation in the Body?
• Reusability - to what extent can other ministries replicate / make use of this investment?

(NOTE: Colors and graphics will not be a part of the judging criteria. All decisions of the judges will be final.)
