Summary Report: Strategic Mobilization Task Force

Dear AD2-Announce Reader:

As the AD2000 & Beyond Movement moves towards its final closure date of early 2001, all of the movement's Tracks / Resource Networks and Task Forces have been requested to provide an overview summary of their specific realm of experience over the 5 - 10 years of their operational existence. These reports have been prepared for compilation of a "lasting record" of this movement and for all to see, as they are interested!

Please see the attached report on the Strategic Mobilization Task Force written by the Task Force Coordinator, Eric Watt. Even though this task force is very young, we think you will be greatly encouraged about what God has done with the cooperation of many worldwide. Great appreciation and praises to God for Eric - and many others involved!

These reports will all be included along with other historical reports and data of the AD2000 & Beyond Movement, including the AD2000 website, and much more on a CD-ROM being produced for distribution at Celebrate Messiah 2000. Brief Historical Overview

The Strategic Mobilization Task Force was formed in 1998 with the focus of mobilizing and connecting the various tracks, task forces and networks together in working to fulfill the Great Commission. In the span of two years, through a loose association/network of friends, the SMTF has been able to provide strategic momentum for numerous projects in more than 100 countries.

How Did God use the Strategic Mobilization Task Force (SMTF)?

The SMTF was used to mobilize the expatriate community to engage in initiatives fostered from the grass roots level. Two examples of these natural networks on a global scale have been the Millennial Tribute to Jesus (690 million viewers of a special edition of the JESUS film viewed in 63 languages) and participation in providing support and some infrastructure to the Major Sports Evangelism Partnership's Kids Games. In both cases more than 800 organizations from 100 countries have mobilized to work together in providing a platform for both evangelism and church planting to take place. Information on other numerous mobilization initiatives in restricted environments is available through the office.

What specific goals did the SMTF accomplish?

There were four notable outcomes of the SMTF.

1. Established a network of relationships that are based on friendship more than organizational alignment in 100 countries.
2. Developed a core team from various nations to enable media to combine with local church initiatives in evangelism and church planting.
3. Connecting a global movement of youth from many nations to focus first on their absolute devotion to Jesus and second, to focus on missions in the 10/40 Window.
4. Solidified a relational network with the primary leaders of the house church movement in China. This has resulted in providing leadership tools to more than 300,000 leaders and the development of training and mission sending tools.

What were the lessons learned?

There were at least three lessons learned.

1. There is a perception by many national leaders that they are not viewed as real equals.
2. The most strategic initiatives are born through relationships that are deep and value equal servanthood. These can be any combination of national and expatriate leadership.
3. There is a growing youth movement in 10/40 Window nations that is yearning to be mobilized through their own structures, but not through the traditional missions motif. Their devotion to Jesus needs to be honored and their long-term commitment guided in a multi-generational fashion.

What would the SMTF have done differently... what would you recommend for the future

1. Focus entirely on guiding a two-generational mobilization effort where emerging leaders are given equal footing and released into coaching environments.
2. Concentrate on building indigenous viable economic funding models
3. Propagate more effectively the fruitful models of church planting.
4. Guide, fuel and connect youth to take their place in the task.
