GCOWE '97 Worship and Performing Arts in Missions Consultation

This report came out of meetings held recently in South Africa and attended by the 35 GCOWE 97 consultation coordinators from 7 countries. The registration process remains open with registrations in from 71 countries and rising toward the goal of over 100 countries.

International Co-Coordinators:Leon and Naomi Boshoff, South Africa - Founders, Christian Artists an organization that trains, develops and moilizes worship and arts into missions. Former missionaries with YWAM in Holland. Helped pioneer "Musicians for Missions."

Desired Outcome of Consultation: Gifted Christian artists and heads of like ministries will discuss how to use the arts to gain access to restricted countries and how to win a hearing for the gospel through non-threatening presentations.

Criterion for Selecting Delegates: (1) Understand clearly the call of God to missions and be active in fulfilling that call. (2) Men and women of integrity, who are in leadership in their field of ministry, whether it be worship, or evangelism through performances or industry, or involvement in the arts and culture sections of society. (3) Men and women who are already established role-models in their ministry and in various nations. (4) Men and women who know how to worship God and who can impart this to others. (5) Particularly people who are key networkers.

Example of Key Persons Attending: Scott Wesley Brown, USA - World renown singer and songwriter with I Care Ministry. Colin Harbinson, Dean of College of Performing Arts, YWAM. Sesene LeAua, involved in cultural redemption through the arts. Karen Lafferty, USA - Director, Musicians for Missions Intl. YWAM. Paul Neeley, Ghana - Ethnomusicologist, Ghana Institute Linguistics.

Consultation coordinators report the following praise reports: In the process so far, this consultation has already created an infrastructure whereby pertinent issues on worship and its role in church planting, cross-cultural evangelism, new ways of creative evangelism working together on projects, international forum created for Worship and Arts related ministers/ministries have been identified.
