Global Consultation on World Evangelization
June 30 - July 5, 1997
Pretoria, South Africa
July 3, 1997
For the first time in church history, business executives and professionals gathered to join with other Christian leaders in GCOWE í97, Pretoria, South Africa.
The AD2000 & Beyond Business Executive Consultation is a core group of leaders commissioned to bring together those organizations and missions called to the global marketplace. Their objective is to envision and coordinate action in support of the AD2000 & Beyond initiative of a "church for every people and the gospel for every person by the year 2000".
Basic to our vision, our mission and our strategy is the example of Jesus Christ (Galatians 4:4; John 1:14). He alone is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6). In obedience to Him, the disciples went out in the power of His Spirit to be His witnesses and to establish His church across the earth (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8).
As business executives and professionals, we are challenged to give our response to the call manifest in the Great Commission. Other Christian leaders are calling on us because in our hands we hold the key to many unreached nations and peoples. A business person seldom experiences a closed border!
We declare that Kingdom principles will be placed first and that all material things belong to the Lord. Our companies also belong to Him and therefore we consider ourselves to be faithful stewards of what God has entrusted to us.
The AD2000 Business Executive and Professional Network is a catalyst for the vision of "a church for every people and the gospel for every person by the year 2000". Our role is to facilitate networking and to penetrate the 10/40 Window peoples with the gospel of Jesus Christ through showing Godís love in action.
As Christians, we confess a deep awareness of our failure to use our businesses as instruments to make Christ known throughout the world. We see the close of the millennium as a unique occasion to emphasize the urgency of taking the gospel to the ends of the earth, and specifically to the peoples in the 10/40 Window.
We seek, in a spirit of servanthood, to encourage, network and motivate Christian business people by inspiring them to obey the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) and the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40). We will stimulate cooperation among existing businesses, market place ministries, churches, para-church organizations, missionary societies, and service groups of all kinds in order to work toward this objective.
Under the Lordship of Christ, we confidently expect to establish a worldwide network of businesses to serve the unreached peoples of the world. With this we will gain access to countries otherwise closed to the gospel through trade and joint ventures, funding of projects and contacts with government officials.
The magnitude of this task is beyond our frail human resources, but we know that with God all things are possible (Luke 1:37).
We believe that our united and catalytic role will stimulate and encourage divinely motivated initiatives. As God enables us, we will disseminate information, initiate and promote joint efforts to build bridges into the unreached areas of the world. We intend to facilitate evangelism and discipling among these peoples while delivering compassionate care for their physical needs.
The Lord has given us access to the leaders in countries in Africa and in the 10/40 Window. We will build on these platforms to promote excellent and fully accountable business activities.
Our strategy will require overall coordination and country-by-country plans. To accomplish this task we will assign International and National Coordinators who will:
Placing our trust in Jesus Christ, we confidently anticipate a great moving of the Holy Spirit to empower and mobilize Christian business people worldwide to support this movement. We declare our commitment of time, skills and financial resources so that there may be a "church for every people and the gospel for ever person by the year 2000" to the glory of God.
